“I never thought of myself as a great man, just a man committed to great ideas…  There is no question I am an idealist, which is another way of saying that I am an American.”  – Ronald Reagan

As I pondered this thought from a bygone era, I found myself thinking about great men.  Men that I know, or have known in times gone by.  I found myself thinking about the late Verbal Bean.  A man who was known for powerful ministry amongst the Apostolic movement.  A man who was powerful in prayer.  A man who was powerful in faith. A man who passed from this world of time into that other world of eternity at a young age.  I don’t know, perhaps he left us at a young age because he was more comfortable in that realm than he was this one.  The one thing I do know, is that those who came into contact with him knew that they had come into contact with a great man of God.

Instead of going on and naming other great men allow me to move on to my thought…The Mark Of Greatness.  As I was teaching in a seminar for leaders a few hours ago the thought occurred to me that nowhere in the Word of God do I find us being instructed to do great deeds.  However, we are continually challenged to be committed and faithful.

Without commitment and faithfulness there can be no greatness.

Matt. 25:21 His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

In Zech. 4:10 we are challenged not to despise “the day of small things”.

If we’ll learn to be faithful in the few and committed to the small, the day will come that God will bring increase into our lives!!!
